The witches of Greenwitch de Katharina Gerlach

A mysterious stone magics book-rat Melissa to the world of Greenwitch where she meets fairy tale creatures that are not at all what she expected. Desperately, she looks for a way home and tries to ignore her past which pops up at the most inappropriate moments. At the same time, dangerous pursuers are at her heels getting closer by the minute.

Now I'm going to say some words in English because I have to. Well, these days I had the honor to talk with Kataharina Gerlach on twitter, and I'm proud to say that she will answer you to the questions that you have about this story.
As I said in Romanian, I'm still reading it and even that this is my first book that I read in English is easy to understand it. The story is very simple and full with mystery.
Melissa is the child that suffered a lot in life, but who is trying to pass through, so I admire this character for it's personality. Well yes, she is tho one who find the magic stone, and she use it to travel in other world, away form the cruel reality.
Um...what else should I say? Oh...I don't like Ceres - the emperor. I find him very evil and the black sheep of the story and the one who will destroy everything and everyone just to have that stone. He seems to be cruel and with no heart, but as I said before I'm still reading the book so I can't judge him.
Djareet is a nice person, and I find him very interesting, except maybe, his style to do the things. Is it really necessary to kill everyone? But it doesn't matter because he has ice-blue-eyes, and he conquered my heart with them.
Um...I hope I will finish soon the book, because it is very good, and I'll put the first chapter translated by me. So...happy reading!

Oh yes, I almost forgot, you can read the story HERE

  1. Thank you for posting such a favorable review. It is rather late now and I have to go to bed because my kids will have to get up very early (school- yuck), but I will come by during the next few days and answer any questions you might have.

If you like the story and want to read more by me, you can join my mailing list (strictly no-spam) where I announce new releases (the next one will be on October the 4th).

  2. Well guys this is Cat, and I'm proud that she is with us, and I'm apologise for the mistakes that I made in my post. I promise that tomorrow I'll correct them. Um...don't be shy, and ask whatever you want.

So for start, I have a question: What determinated you to write this story? It's amazing and original and I'm addicted to it. I never read such a story before.

  3. Several years ago, a tiny publisher in Germany (where I live) asked authors for novelettes up to 40000 words where a magical stone takes the main character into another world. The MC was supposed to find the stone in the beginning and lose it at the end. The publisher wanted to turn this into a series. So, I wrote this story (I love unicorns and dragons so it came naturally). But when I finished, the publisher had become bankrupt.

I kept the story in my Computer. Then, I decided I need to get known. I found myself an artist (and aren't Eszti's drawings amazing?) and put up one chapter a week for a whole year in German and English. I got several faithful followers.

As to where the elements of the story came from -- I always loved fantasy but I thought the "traditional" use of those creatures a little unimaginative. So I decided to twist them. It was a lot of fun. Also, I do not like bad guys being entirely bad. In my novels they always have a reason to do bad things. With these elements combines, it wasn't too hard to be inspired. ;-)

  5. At the moment, it is a single book. You can read it where Andra linked it. Or you can join my mailing list (strictly no-spam) where I announce new releases. I'm not yet sure if I will write more stories about the stone. There are so many ideas I need to write first. But I might do it later.

  11. hey hello!

On this blog i first found out about The witches of Greenwitch and i am looking forward to read it!

Does it contain some romance too or just adventure/action?

    RăspundețiȘtergere
  12. @Beto Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

@Alex It does not have explicit romance (as in the romance genre) but you can still fall in love with the bad guy because he isn't as bad as you think he is.

When I wrote this, romance wasn't a "must" in the genre as it is today. And I have to admit that I found it difficult to write a believable romance back then. Of course, I've learned a lot since then, so some of my current novels do have a romance subplot (especially my historical novels)

I hope you will be able to enjoy it without much hugging and cuddling too.
